Customer Reviews:
"I found a pleasant mixture of both rhyme and free verse as well as a variety of subjects and emotions
in this inspiring collection. I think there's a little something for everyone (poetically speaking) in this book.
The Letter (Parts 1 and 2) could have been a book all by itself. It's a truly touching 'duet' poem by a
husband and wife and how their love came to be. Wonderful work and I highly recommend reading it!" - Poppy Hullings
"I enjoyed James's book so much. He writes in differing styles that are unique and beautiful. I especially
loved the poetry written for Marie. Oh, to have someone write like that for me! Simply beautiful words." - Floria Kelderhouse
"I found this book extremely exciting and full of emotion. The poetry has captured the essence
of passion, love, life and humor. A very delightful read. My copy has been added and well decorates my
bookshelf with wonderful pleasure. Don't delay, get yours today!" - Sally Ann Roberts
"To look into your eyes is to see everything in a new light.........To hear you say I love you is to hear
the beauty of my heart talking to yours (To, pg. 18), is just one of the intense emotions you will experience
in Midnight Shadows. Summers plucks the heartstrings of all who have known the depths of love and romance,
and beyond; his chapbook is a monument of devotion, the embodiment of deep caring and love. The tempering
of intellect with emotion in this lifetime often incurs love experiences without happy endings, but we are reminded
that hope for true happiness is a tangible commodity when Summer's tells us: She stood back and watched
as your kind, gentle, carrying, calm and soft hands picked up the pieces and put them back together with
patience, passion, care, admiration, adoration, romance and love. She stood back and watched as you
gently, softly, carefully worked your magic causing my heart to beat once again (Beating Heart, pg.14).
In Marie, (pg.21), we are told that the light rain of a spring day sparkles in her eyes, the beauty
of a blooming rose reflects her smile, and in picking a ripened berry from a plant, Summers is:
reminded of the sweet taste of love when we kissed, when we looked deep in each other's eyes,
and when we touched each other in a warm embrace. All the emotions and feelings are what I
feel every time I take a walk, a look, or just think about us. In Forgiveness, (pg.12), the
separation of death and that of a relationship seems as one to the heart when we read:
Every night is the night I die, still searching for the dream in which to awaken from my fate...
Then and only then am I allowed to rejoin you, A day I dream for in a land of EverAfter.
Contemplating love's existence and power, Tears (pg.22), questions: Who are you? You
can't be alive, Yet you can't be dead...What can you be?
The deep philosophy of Summer's logical thinking questions pure emotion - something that simply just is,
and entices us to think beyond his words. You are in for a treat with four poetry duets, if you will, written
by husband and wife together, as James and Marie Summers combine their poetic talents, augmenting the
male and female perspectives of love, and how they innocently and totally combine into one. In Kissing
Shadows (pg. 27), we are given an insightful look into the power of a kiss, and how its gentle tenderness
is perceived by each partner. In The Letter, (pg. 28-31), Part 1 (by Marie Summers) and Part 2
(by James Summers), we are told the story about their wedding proposal through spellbinding epic
prose which interweaves their thoughts and emotions.
If you want to reinforce your belief in everlasting love, in the depths and power of the human heart,
and experience the philosophy of a true independent thinker, pick up a copy of Midnight Shadows
and treat yourself to a fresh and intimate read." - Jan Turner
