Customer Reviews:
"Time With You by Jan Turner is a delightful collection of poems, many of which are about family members
and friends. Generously scattered throughout the book are her art images, most of them in full color. This charming chapbook
showcases Jan’s varied talents. Do you like rhyme? It can be found here, as well as several
of Jan’s own poetry forms. Time With You should please both poets and artists." - Emily Romano, author of
ten books offered at Shadow poetry, and co-author with Jan Tuner of Faery Folk & Fireflies
"Do you like music? The rhythm of the rhyme entices you to sing the words. Gorgeous colorful art embraces your senses.
This is a chapbook you will pickup and enjoy over and over again." - Carol Kelly
"At last, a romantic themed chapbook this season at Shadowpoetry! Its title is TIME WITH YOU, and its "Words of Endearment"
are truly endearing! Each of its four chapters is introduced by delightful orginal artwork by the multi-talented writer/artist, Jan Turner.
While the first two chapters are based on romantic, familial and friendship types of love, the last two chapters focus on "catchy" poetry
with lyrics (in the third chapter entitled "Rhyme & Rhythm" ) and on poetry that charmingly celebrates the winter season in a final chapter
fittingly entitled "Winter Rejoicing."
It's to the first chapter of the book("Heart to Heart") that I was particularly drawn because Ms. Turner uses new modern forms such
as her Wrapped Refrain and Connie Marcum Wong's Constanza form in addition to classic forms such as Sonnets to capture the essence
of both romance and abiding love. From the first poem in the book, "Come Dance the Night Away," (which eloquently describes the feelings
of the ballroom dancers on the cover of the chapbook) to the final poem done in Ottavo Rima, "To Favorite Poets Everywhere," every poem
in that chapter was a joy for me to read. Thank you, Jan, for yet another beautiful additon to your collection of Shadow Poetry
chapbooks!" - Andrea Dietrich/ Author of 7 chapbooks at Shadow Poetry and Poetry Editor of SPQuill
"From the moment I held Jan Turner’s new chapbook, Time With You: Words of Endearment, it was love at first sight!
Ms. Turner’s cover art is stunning; the colors seem to vibrate with the strains of some long-remembered waltz that floats across
the marble dance floor. The interior color images glow with saturated hues, and the drawings make known the energy of grace
in motion. All the art images are the original work of the author.
Time With You is beautifully organized into 4 sections: Heart to Heart, Family & Friends, Rhythm & Rhyme, and Winter Rejoicing.
In each of these, Ms. Turner skillfully demonstrates her ability to write in various poetic forms (some of her own invention:
Wrapped Refrain, Trijan Refrain). In one song lyric she invites us to “play the piano with Mrs. Romano and keep on a singing long
into the night . . .,” which tickled my funny bone and had me tapping my foot. My favorite poem though is Jennifer’s Song, and I
quote the refrain from that poem here:
A mother feels a love so deep
that it can rob her of her sleep;
my thoughts tonight are as they were. . .
with love for you, sweet Jennifer.
Ms. Turner’s talents as a poet and an artist come together in Time With You, resulting in the aesthetically pleasing harmony of words
and visual art that make this such an outstanding chapbook." - Margaret R. Smith
