Living in a diverse culture

by Hanh Chau

Many people have referred to America as the "melting pot" because it was known for the enriched diverse culture and people. Amazingly, this has broadened my personal perspective on cultural identity when I am surrounded by many different people. Such perspective has helped open my heart to learn about others and to share my ideas with them. My experience of living in a multicultural society has brought me with many new adventures and fascination such as meeting new people and opportunity to explore to new ideas.

I believe since America is a country that represents of cultural and racially diverse and if I we are to live freely with peace and acquire happiness, it is important for us to learn to get along and show respect to others. The impact of living in a multicultural society has provided me with many great opportunities to observe others, to exchange different values and beliefs, to participate in many different cultural events, and to interact and build up communication and understanding with people.

Therefore, I say the purpose of promoting a cultural awareness would help us in gaining a better point of view and a deep sense of other people's needs and concerns. This enables us to understand and value others' opinions and ideas. In addition, it provides unity for mankind, the opportunity for all to work together, to cooperate, and overcome any obstacles that we all might face, and sharing the fostering of love, caring, and friendship with each other.

My envision for the world is to see everyone embracing with hand holding hand, offering peace among others, sharing in brotherly love, and displaying a joyful smile on each other's face as a symbol for hope and respect.
