Once Upon a Time

by Jerry Gill

    Once upon a time,
a child perhaps a year old lay in his mother's lap on a moving train. They were alone. He was
awake. His mother looked out the window. At what?
He lay there quietly looking up at his mother as the train click..clack..click..
clacked along. He didn't know where they
were or where they were going. He was just happily on his mother's lap on a train.
Now an adult, the child doesn't know if he's dreaming it, if he made it up, or if it really happened
this way.
    He's sure it did.
    He believes it did.
    But even if it didn't....
